Member Meeting 12/14/17

The Meat Raffle was a success! OSPHC raised over $1200 at this event. A donation of $500 was made to the ELKS Monument Memorial Fund for ELKS that were Veterans. Thanks to all that volunteered and attended.

The BOD has discussed and voted to change the Member Meeting schedule. Beginning in 2018 we will be having our Thursday Member Meetings every other month. On the alternate month there will be a Phlash Phlocking. After some discussion at this meeting and several suggestions from members, it was decided that this Phlash Phlocking will be held on the third Sunday of the month. Notification of what we will be doing at these phlockings will be sent out to members at least 1 week before the event. Look for information coming soon for our first Phlash Phlocking in January 2018.

The NE Parrothead Convention is coming up in February.

Donations for the U.S. Virgin Islands were sent to Sandy. Our club receives cash donations of $235 as well as several gift cards. Unfortunately lots of the residents are leaving the island, probably permanently due to loss of homes and jobs.

OSPHC is holding a Meat Raffle on November 5th at the Tri City ELKS club in Warwick. We need volunteers at 12pm to help setup, cleanup, runners and 50/50 raffle sales. Proceeds of this fundraiser will go to a veteran’s group and the ELKS charity. We have fliers to advertise the event, if you could help put a few up please contact Charlene. The festivities will begin around 1pm.

The Fall Fun Day was lots of fun! Look for a similar event next year. Hope to see everyone there! Look out for information about a spring event also!

The results are in and so far $1797.50 was raised by our team for the Alzheimer’s Walk.

Our December Member Meeting will be our annual Christmas Party!

Member's Meeting  - 9/14/17

Donations for the YMCA in Houston were collected. Thanks to everyone that brought a donation for this worthy cause! We are still waiting for more information on a collection for those effected by hurricane Irma in Florida. Cardi’s is supposed to be putting something together, so look for more info soon.

MOTM is still expected to take place the first week of November. We discussed what this may look like since most of the Keys were devastated by the hurricane. Good news the Casa Marina weathered the storm pretty well and will be ready in time for MOTM!

The OSPHC Board of Directors did an audit of the club financials. Everything looks good! The BOD will continue to audit the books annually.

Operation Stand Down is having an event on Sept 15-17th. They are setting up a tent city which will provide services like hygiene, financial, housing, legal and employment services to homeless vets in RI. OSPHC is sponsoring a tent for this event with a $250 donation.

Charlie opened the meeting with a Team Drink!

Our annual Golf Tournament is fast approaching and is at risk of being canceled. We need your help to make this event happen. Please spread the word that golfers, volunteers and sponsors are needed. Diane Mulligan is running the raffle this year and the Sheehan’s are handling the putting tourney, but more volunteers are needed. So far we have 1 paid sponsor and a few potential sponsors but more are needed. FYI, if we don’t get enough golfers by Aug 21st that tournament may be canceled.

We are once again volunteering at the Alzheimer’s Walk on 9/17 at Fort Adams in Newport. This year OSPHC is also a “Gold Sponsor” due to our generous donation from convention. So, in addition to walking and running our water stop, the club will be setting up an informational table at the event.

Buffett tickets were distributed at the meeting.

The club’s birthday party at Newport Polo was lots of fun and team USA won! We will definitely be going again.

OSPHC has lots of great activities plans for the next few months. Please consider joining us for a few (or all) of the following:

  • WaterFire – the club will be volunteering at a full lighting of WaterFire on 7/22. Anyone interested should contact Sue and sign-up on their website.
  • Scott Kirby is performing at the Courthouse Center for the Arts in Kingston on 7/22. Tickets are available for $20 each.
  • Jimmy Buffett has a few shows in the area. He will be at Jones Beach on 8/15 and Great Woods (or Xfinity Center if you prefer) on 8/19. As has been the tradition for the past few years the New England clubs will be gathering at the Red Roof Inn in Mansfield on 8/18 for a Pre-Buffett Pool Party with live music. Everyone is invited to join in the fun!
  • The New England Quahog Festival is coming up on 8/27 in N. Kingstown. OSPHC will be volunteering at this event. Please let Sue Nelson know if you would like to volunteer for this fun event.
  • OSPHC’s annual Golf Tournament is scheduled for 9/10. We are in need of volunteers, sponsors and most importantly GOLFERS. Please consider signing up to help us raise money for a worthy cause! Registrations from club members and the general public are being accepted now. The cost is $75 per golfer or $18 for those just interested in joining us for dinner after the tournament. It’s $50 to sponsor a hole. Know of a business that would like to advertise by donating a swag bag item? We are also looking for donations of goodies to stuff 82 bags.
  • We are once again volunteering at the Alzheimer’s Walk on 9/17 at Fort Adams in Newport. This year OSPHC is also a “Gold Sponsor” due to our generous donation from convention. So, in addition to walking and running our water stop, the club will be setting up an informational table at the event. More information on volunteering will be coming soon…

Member Meeting - 4/13/17

Charlene opened the meeting tonight.  It’s election time and nominations were requested for the following positions:  President, Membership, Social Director and Member at Large.  Since there were no nominations made, all current board members will remain.  Congrats on a great job in the past year…keep up the great work!

Members were asked to fill out index cards with their recommendations of charities for OSPHC to support in the coming year.  Please include the organization name, address, a contact name and phone number.  Addition recommendations came be brought to our next meeting.

Back by popular demand…we are having another Meat Raffle on at 1pm on May 20th at The Pub (formerly Tara’s).  There will be a 50/50 raffle at the event but due to limited space no raffle baskets this time.  Proceeds of this Meat Raffle will go to Relay for Life Team Inner Courage.   Another meat raffle is being considered for the fall as well.

It’s time to renew your membership!  Renewals are due in June.  The BOD is working on ways to improve the current membership points system.  Looking for better tracking, more ways to earn points and rewards (besides tickets) for those earning points.  One member suggested earning points for bringing new members into the club.  Look for more info on this soon.
